Thousands of years of evolution and tens of thousands of years in the company of humans have imbued cats with specific characteristics and behavioral abilities to help them survive.
Tania Lizbeth Santos Coy Tova told the story of her newly rescued cat Conejo and how he persuaded her to buy him cat food from a grocery store, demonstrating the intelligence of cats.
Conejo’s story was shared on Instagram, and here’s an example of what he did to win Tania’s heart and eventually find a new home.
Tania found a stray cat outside her nearby store in Piedras Negras, Mexico, according to Bored Panda.
The cat followed Tania into the shop and paw-pointed the food he wants Tania to get him after much-needed obligatory pats on the head and soft strokes.
That’s one astute feline!
The stray not only got himself some food, but he even got himself a new home and a new best friend without ever noticing it.
Since he didn’t have a tail, the stray gave him the name “Canejo,” which means “rabbit.”
Conejo’s transition from life on the streets to being a house cat was difficult, owing to the fact that he had never known a home before.
“First, we had to treat his numerous wounds. We don’t know if it was because of human mistreatment or because he was fighting with other street animals.”
“Even before he came to our house, he allowed himself to be touched and carried, but his face was always sad and fearful.”
Conejo, on the other hand, is now a very happy cat who no longer needs to scavenge for food on the streets.
